How to Prepare for Botox in Boston, MA – A Regeneris Guide

At this point in pop culture history, Botox® is established enough to join Elvis, baseball, and the 4th of July as a world-renowned American icon. The cosmetic injectable has already swept several times across the globe, limiting the development of fine lines and wrinkles wherever it goes.

But regardless of the space Botox occupies in our national consciousness, not everyone has tried it for themselves. Despite study after study confirming the potency of preventative Botox treatments, some among us just haven’t come around to giving it a shot (no pun intended).

Whether you’re gearing up for your first or fiftieth Botox appointment in Boston, MA, we’ve got you covered. Here’s your comprehensive guide on Botox preparation, complete with one or two pointers you may not find elsewhere.

Preparing For Botox in Boston, MA – Dos & Don’ts

At Regeneris Medspa & Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Ryan Welter and his team have lost count of the Botox injections they’ve performed. As the most popular cosmetic injectable in the world, Botox is in high demand. That said, new or first-time patients are always welcome. Our compassionate team will tell you everything you need to know during your consultation.

To schedule your injectable appointment today, call Regeneris Medspa at (781) 412-1309 or contact us online.

Preparing for Botox – The Dos

You don’t have to do much to prepare for your Botox appointment, but there are a few simple steps you should take to make the process smoother while enhancing the experience.

Hydrate

As with so many other events in life, Botox appointments are better, faster, and more effective if you’re hydrated. The water you take in has a direct effect on the resiliency and quality of your skin. By hydrating ahead of time, you’re making the Botox appointment smoother while avoiding bruising afterward.

Wash Your Face

Before your Botox appointment, we’ll scrub the injection site with an antiseptic wipe. But the cleaner your face is, the better! A simple, gentle scrub should do the trick—nothing more than soap and water.

Adjust Your Expectations

Unfortunately, Botox results aren’t immediate. As the world’s leading neuromodulator, Botox works by lightly stunning the facial muscles responsible for the development or worsening of fine lines. As part of a long-term skin care routine, Botox works wonders, but you won’t see a difference straight away.

Dermal fillers add volume instantly, smoothing fine lines and wrinkles when your face is at rest. But for expression lines and long term wrinkle prevention, Botox is the way to go!

Schedule Wisely

It’s rare that a Botox appointment takes more than 15 minutes of your time. But there are a few best practice aftercare instructions you’ll want to follow for maximum results. As such, it’s wise to schedule your appointment at the right time.

Perfect for lunch breaks, a quick bit of self-care after the workday is done, or an early morning pick-me-up, Botox is accomplished in a flash. But even so, a little bit of clever scheduling goes a long way.

Ask Questions

The name “Botox” is known by all sorts of people from all walks of life all around the world. Just like starting a new fitness class or learning a new skill, we can and should have questions. At Regeneris Medspa, we never pressure clients into treatments they don’t need. We’ll also never leave you hanging if you have questions or concerns.

If this is your first Botox appointment, we encourage you to ask as many questions as you can think of. We’re happy to cover everything from why it works to how long results last and more! The more answers you get, the more comfortable you feel, the better your experience will be.

Preparing for Botox – The Don’ts

Now that we’ve covered what you should do before your Botox appointment, let’s talk about what you need to avoid for the best experience and longest lasting results.

Avoid Certain Medications

Stop us if this sounds familiar, but as is the case with so many other treatments, Botox and NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) don’t mix. You’ll want to avoid these medications beforehand to limit your likelihood of bruising afterward.

Similarly, blood thinners and certain supplements are a no-go before Botox treatments. During your consultation, we’ll speak to you about any medications you’re taking and advise accordingly for the utmost safety and satisfaction.

Avoid Irritating Skin Treatments

At Regeneris Medspa, we’re no strangers to microdermabrasion, laser skin resurfacing, or the always-fashionable chemical peel. Though excellent at any other time, these treatments can upset your skin before a Botox appointment, compromising both your comfort and the ultimate results. It’s best to hold off on these treatments while preparing for Botox.

Skip Your Workout

If you’re a proud, 5-days-a-week fitness junkie, we hate to burst your bubble. While working out before your Botox appointment is encouraged, working out within the 24 hours after your appointment is ill-advised. Exercise raises your blood pressure and could lead to increased bruising or swelling after your Botox appointment.

Avoid Alcohol

Here again, we wouldn’t normally discourage the odd cocktail or two, especially after work. But for at least 24 hours before your appointment, you should avoid wine, beer, and alcoholic spirits for the best results. Alcohol thins your blood and makes bruising or swelling more likely—even with just a quick, simple injection.

Plan to avoid adult beverages for at least a day before and after your appointment.

Avoid Makeup

Like alcohol, it’s best to avoid makeup for the first 24 hours after your recent Botox appointment. You’ll wash any makeup off your face beforehand, but it’s also best to skip the foundation, eyeliner, etc. after the fact, too.
