The process of aging is inevitable. Some of us age ‘better’ than others and for those of us that appear older and more tired, plenty of options are available. Injectable Neurotoxins, specifically Xeomin, is one of the most popular and common options for signs of aging skin. Dermal fillers, also known as ‘injectables’ fill the areas under the skin that need to be filled in order to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and deep creases. Xeomin is FDA approved and is a safe, effective treatment in the anti-aging therapy.
Risks and Side effects
With any procedure, risks and side effects are always possible. Each patient reacts differently to different procedures as well as each patient experiences a different healing time. Sometimes, Xeomin injections can cause asymmetry of the face, drooping of the eyebrow or eyelid, double vision or possible weakening when closing the eyes. Although these are rare, they are still possible and because Xeomin is a temporary treatment, these rare side effects are also temporary and will disappear in a few months. Another side effect thats a possibility from Xeomin is a headache. Injectable Neurotoxins are used to treat headaches in some cases, however, headaches are a possible side effect. Speaking with your physician about all risks and side effects prior to your procedure is crucial. It’s important to understand all aspects before giving your full consent.
What to expect post procedure
Each patient is different when it comes to the healing process. You may heal quite quickly whereas, a family member of yours takes a few more days. The expected healing time is about a day or two. The area that’s been injected with Xeomin will be swollen for a few hours post procedure, resembling a mosquito bite. Little red spots may appear but are common and will resolve in a few days time. Bruising is a possibility post procedure and may take a few days to clear up. Moving the facial muscles that were injected i.e. the eyebrows can speed up Xeomin absorption and can help with the healing process. Avoiding aspirin products for about 48 hours is essential post procedure as well as high dosage vitamin E supplements. If you have any suspicions of infection, it’s important to call your physician right away.
Results depend on the patient and the area being treated. Xeomin is a temporary fix so it’s important to keep that in mind. Wrinkle reduction varies and improvement lasts about 3-4 months before seeking another treatment. Depending on the amount of repeated treatments done, the results can last much longer than 3-4 months. Wrinkles become smoother and the brows will be lifted as well as the eyelids becoming more opened. Once all is said and done, Xeomin will give your face a fresh, rejuvenated look.
